ͷ State named top transfer destination in Kansas for 10th straight year

For the 10th year straight, ͷ has been named as the top transfer destination for Kansas community college students.

About 900 Kansas community college students transferred to ͷ State, and one in every four students who choose to transfer from a Kansas community college to a four-year school chose ͷ State in 2019, the most recent data available.

“Students transferring to ͷ State have long been a critical part of our university,” Bobby Gandu, director of Undergraduate Admissions. “ͷ State works hard to ensure the transfer process is as smooth as possible. We continue to work on articulation agreements with other institutions to create clear paths to transfer credits. Potential transfer students can see how the credits they have already taken can apply to different degrees by using our Transfer Gateway. Many choose to utilize our dual advising program where an advisor at the community college works with an advisor at ͷ State to ensure credits transfer.”

Riley Greathouse, a dental hygiene major and a student transfer from Garden City Community College, says the ease of the transfer process at ͷ State was one of the reasons she decided to join the Shocker community.

“My transfer experience to ͷ State was fairly effortless,” she said. “I worked with dual advising which allowed me to have a smoother transition before I transferred. Through dual advising, I was able to communicate with an advisor right here on campus as well as my advisor back at Garden City Community College. This was extremely beneficial as it assured me that I was taking appropriate courses and it gave me greater confidence in my decision to attend ͷ State. I love that WSU is so warm and welcoming to transfer students and it has always felt like home even though I didn’t begin my college career here.”

The familiar and close-knit community surrounding ͷ State has also been noted as a draw for transfer students.

“I decided to transfer to WSU because it is close to my family and I love how the ͷ State community feels like a big family,” says Maranda Wagner, a junior from ͷ studying exercise science who transferred from Butler Community College. “What drew me to WSU is the on-campus and community involvement opportunities.”

According to the Kansas Board of Regents, the schools sending the most students to ͷ State in 2019 were:

  • Butler Community College – 419 students in 2019; averaged 412.5 students over 10 years
  • Hutchinson Community College – 135 students in 2019; averaged 146 students over 10 years
  • Cowley College – 130 students in 2019; averaged 170.3 students over 10 years

Overall, ͷ State averaged an incoming Kansas community college class of 906.4 students over 10 years. For more information about how to transfer to ͷ State, visit the Transfer Gateway.
