Hawaiian music developed from a fascinating combination of influences, from Polynesian sounds to cowboy guitars. In the 1920s, Hawaiian music and performers took Vaudeville by storm and started a journey for the Hawaiian guitar that would wend from Nashville to Nigeria. In more recent years, attention has been focused on the slack key guitar tradition of the islands, as both recognized masters and a new generation of players have come to the fore. Along with all these great sounds and performers, we'll also explore some of the many artists and styles that Hawaiian music has influenced over the years. Join us for the 'Aloha Spirit' all month long on Global Village.
