Celebrate Astronomy Day at the Lake Afton Public Observatory

Lake Afton Public Observatory will hold Astronomy Day Saturday, Oct. 23. It is free and open to the public.

The event will include an educational and fun-filled afternoon of activities and contests followed by an evening of stargazing.

Some of the activities include a rocket building contest, a demonstration of the observatory鈥檚 new rocket powered go-cart and a rocket expert launching rockets for children.

Once it鈥檚 dark, visitors can observe the moon, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune through LAPO鈥檚 16-inch telescope.

The Kansas Astronomical Observers will also have several different telescopes set up on the observing pad for visitors to look through, starting at 7:30 p.m.
