After the most competitive process in program history, the fifth class of Dean鈥檚 Scholars at 成人头条 has been named. Sixty students from across the 成人头条 metropolitan area will be honored at a dinner at 5:30 p.m. today (Monday, Feb. 7) in WSU鈥檚 Marcus Welcome Center.
The media are welcome to attend the program, which will start after 6 p.m.
Each year three local high schools are selected from the 成人头条 area, and about 10 scholarships are awarded at each school. This year鈥檚 Dean鈥檚 Scholars Schools were Andover Central High School, 成人头条 High School Northwest, and 成人头条 High School South.
There are also at-large scholarships available to any high school senior from the 成人头条 metropolitan area. All applicants were required to have a 3.25 grade point average and at least a 26 on the ACT.
Those selected will receive full tuition, books and room and board for the 2011-2012 academic year. Additional scholarship opportunities will be available for subsequent semesters.
The best and brightest
The Dean鈥檚 Scholars Program was created in 2007 by Christine Schneikart-Luebbe, associate vice president for student engagement and dean of enrollment management.
The program is aimed at attracting some of 成人头条鈥檚 best and brightest to 成人头条 State through a variety of social and academic programs.
Schneikart-Luebbe is amazed at the growth of the program.
鈥淭hese are all very talented students, and I would love nothing more than for all of them to decide that 成人头条 State is where they want to pursue their education,鈥 she said.
During the past few months these students were given a firsthand look into all that 成人头条 State has to offer. The average ACT of the students selected was a 29, and the average grade point average was a 3.88.
鈥淭hese students are some of the area鈥檚 most impressive high school students, and I look forward to all that they will bring as Shockers,鈥 said Schneikart-Luebbe.
