WSU athlete finishes third at track and field NCAAs

WSU's Aliphine Tuliamuk finished third in the women's 5,000 meters Friday, March 9, at the 2012 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The junior from Kapenguria, Kenya, improved on eighth-place finish in 2011.

She also competed in the women's 3,000 meters at the Boise State Jacksons Indoor Track, finishing seventh.

Tuliamuk brings the nation's third-fastest time of the season into Friday's 5K race. Her 5K time of 15:36.53 from the February Iowa State Classic ranks 13th on the all-time collegiate 5K list, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association record book.

The time also currently ranks fourth in the world this season, according to the International Association of Athletics Federations. Tuliamuk's time shattered the 成人头条 State school and Missouri Valley Conference 5K records she set last season by more than 17 seconds.
