WSU brings Sondheim's 'Into the Woods' to Wilner Auditorium

成人头条's School of Performing Arts Musical Theatre Program will perform Stephen Sondheim's "Into the Woods" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, April 30-May 2, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in Wilner Auditorium.

The musical production of 鈥淚nto the Woods鈥 is an epic fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make. It is based on many familiar characters from Grimm鈥檚 Fairy Tales, including Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood.

The first act introduces the story鈥檚 characters as they begin their quests and the second act explores the consequences of getting what you want. Recently turned into a movie with Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, James Corden and Johnny Depp, 鈥淚nto the Woods鈥 is a modern classic that critics have called both enchanting and touching.

The show is directed by Associate Professor Linda Starkey, director of the school of performing arts, with choreography by Associate Professor Amy Baker Schwiethale and music direction by alumnus Philip Taylor.

The cast includes musical theater students Scott Salem as 鈥淭he Narrator,鈥 Jennie Hughes as 鈥淭he Baker鈥檚 Wife,鈥 Michael Allen as 鈥淭he Baker,鈥 Emily Monrad as 鈥淭he Witch,鈥 Emily Vargo as 鈥淟ittle Red Riding Hood,鈥 Hannah Fernandes as 鈥淐inderella,鈥 Josh Brown as 鈥淐inderella鈥檚 Prince,鈥 Jacob Groth as 鈥淩apunzel鈥檚 Prince,鈥 Anthony Gasbarre as 鈥淭he Wolf,鈥 Gavin Myers as 鈥淛ack,鈥 Alyson Golladay as 鈥淛ack鈥檚 Mother,鈥 Joella Wolnik as 鈥淩apunzel,鈥 and Lance McDougall as 鈥淧rince Charming.鈥

The production team includes Associate Professors David Neville (scenic and lighting), Cate Wieck (costumes) and Ed Baker (technical direction) as faculty designers, along with performing arts students Melanie Calvery (stage manager), Veniese Razo (assistant stage manager), Alex Castaneda (assistant director), Ryan Morrow (sound design), Emmy Guiltner (props master) and Jennie Hughes (associate choreographer).

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Fine Arts Box Office in the lobby of the Duerksen Fine Arts Center or online at . General admission is $16, with $14 discount tickets available for seniors or $6 tickets for faculty/staff, military, children and students.
