Broadway classic 'Chicago' to be performed at WSU

成人头条's School of Performing Arts music theater program will present the musical "Chicago" based off the book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. "Chicago" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, April 21-23, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, in Wilner Auditorium.

Based on the play 鈥淐hicago鈥 by Maurine Dallas Watkins, this award-winning musical is a sharp-edged satire of murder, fame and the public鈥檚 fascination with celebrity, which is as relevant today as it was in the 1920s. The original staging by Bob Fosse and the memorable score have made the show a classic. The most recent revival is still running on Broadway and was turned into an Oscar-winning movie directed by Rob Marshall in 2002.

The student cast includes Hannah Fernandes as Velma Kelly, Madi White as Roxy, Anthony Gasbarre as Billy Flynn, Max Wilson as Amos, Keshanna Cook as Mama Morton and Liz Jarmer as Mary Sunshine. The show is directed by WSU alumnus Stephen Kopel, with choreography by Amy Baker Schwiethale and Sabrina Vasquez.
