Innovation Campus moves ahead with big projects for 2017

  • The Innovation Campus at 成人头条 State began to take shape in 2016.
  • The Food Truck Plaza and Airbus opened.
  • Several more buildings will open or begin construction in 2017.

成人头条 State鈥檚 Innovation Campus began to take shape last year with construction underway on several key projects.

Food Truck Plaza
The WSU Food Truck Plaza held its grand opening on June 20. The plaza is across the street from WSU鈥檚 National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR), on the edge of the new Innovation Campus development. With room for up to four trucks at a time, there are breakfast and lunch options every day during the week.

Airbus
The first partnership building on the Innovation Campus now houses the Airbus 成人头条 engineering center. Airbus is in the process of moving its current location in downtown 成人头条, bringing around 400 employees to campus and many opportunities for applied learning in aerospace engineering. The building is located north of 17th Street, close to NIAR.

Experiential Engineering Building
Opening in the spring is the Experiential Engineering Building, home to 25 laboratories and a community makerspace called GoCreate, a Koch collaborative. The labs will give WSU engineering students the ability to engage in hands-on learning, designed to inspire their creativity and an entrepreneurial way of thinking.

GoCreate
GoCreate will also open in the spring and be a place where people can meet, collaborate and make things happen. It will be part manufacturing plant, part design studio and part garage workshop. Creative people of all ages and skill levels will have access to sophisticated equipment and training, shared work spaces and a supportive community.

Braeburn Square

Braeburn Square

A mixed-use development called Braeburn Square is being built at 21st and Oliver.

The 20-acre area will include restaurants, shops and lodging. Its first building will be a hotel. Construction is expected to begin by spring 2017 on the corner of Oliver and 19th, a new street being built on the Innovation Campus.

Its first retail location will be a full-service Starbucks. The 2,000-square-foot building is under construction just north of WSU鈥檚 Woodman Alumni Center near 21st Street and Mike Oatman Drive.

It will be open in late winter or early spring.
Located along what will eventually be the east pedestrian mall, Starbucks will include a drive-thru and a large plaza with outdoor seating next to the building.

Apartment complex
A private student apartment complex is underway south of Eck Stadium and Mike Oatman Drive. The first apartment building will be ready for occupancy in time for fall classes in August 2017.

The complex will feature 112 apartment units, with full occupancy for 285 residents. Each apartment will feature a full bathroom with every bedroom, a full kitchen and laundry, and balconies for nearly all of the apartments.

The new student housing complex will serve graduate students and undergraduates beginning at the sophomore level. The complex is designed to accommodate additional buildings in future years.
