Performing arts racking up awards at Kennedy Center festival

WSU School of Performing Arts students and faculty have won several Meritorious Awards at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Omaha, Neb. (Jan. 20-26), according to Betty Monroe.

Monroe, a professor in the College of Fine Arts, is on site in Omaha with WSU鈥檚 cast and crew from 鈥淭he Wild Party,鈥 a musical chosen to compete regionally for advancement to the national Kennedy Center festival ().

WSU School of Performing Arts students and faculty won several Meritorious Awards.

They include:

  • David Neville 鈥 Lighting Design for 鈥淐hildren of Eden鈥
  • Betty Monroe 鈥 Costume Design for 鈥淚ntimate Apparel鈥 and 鈥淐hildren of Eden鈥
  • Megan Richardson 鈥 Lighting Design for 鈥淚ntimate Apparel鈥
  • Kaye Brownlee 鈥 Costume Design for 鈥淎 Giant Arc in the Skyspace of Directions鈥
  • Eric Walker 鈥 Lighting Design for 鈥淎 Giant Arc in the Skyspace of Directions鈥
  • Nick Smith 鈥 Sound Design for 鈥淎 Giant Arc in the Skyspace of Directions鈥
  • Phillip Taylor 鈥 Musical Director for 鈥淐hildren of Eden鈥 and 鈥淲ild Party鈥 
     

In addition, three students advanced to the Irene Ryan Scholarship semifinals: Alex Stoll, Kyle Jo Jennings and Miles Mattal. Mattal has advanced to the finals in the Irene Ryan Scholarship competition ().

Whether 鈥淭he Wild Party鈥 goes on to national competition will be announced at a later date.
