As part of 成人头条 State鈥檚 ongoing commitment to campus safety, the university offers , a free mobile app for Android and Apple smartphones that turns any smartphone into a personal safety device.
By downloading the free safety app, students, faculty and staff can enhance their personal safety on and off campus.
With Guardian, users can create a profile of information about themselves and invite family and friends to their safety network.
Location services must be enabled for any guardian to pinpoint your location in an emergency.
Once you鈥檝e downloaded the app, you can request one or more friends or family to be 鈥済uardians鈥 and virtually walk with you on or off campus. The WSU Police Department (UPD) can also be listed as a guardian.
If you do choose University Police as a guardian, they will only see your location if your session expires or there is a duress or emergency alert.
If you鈥檙e leaving class at night or going on a date, for example, set the amount of time you think it will take to reach your destination and add guardians to your timer session.
Upon your safe arrival, simply deactivate the timer from your phone. If the timer runs out and the session expires, the app will start notifying the guardian(s) you have selected.
If you choose not to set up UPD as a guardian, make sure to coordinate with your guardian ahead of time and decide what you want to have them do if your session expires, such as contact you, the police or someone else.
If you do choose UPD as a guardian, the UPD will only have access to your information and location if your session expires, you deactivate your PIN number with the duress code or make an emergency call.
In the unlikely event you are coerced into deactivating your Safety Timer session, instead of entering your regular PIN, you can enter a Duress PIN, which will immediately put your session into Alert status and will contact the UPD.
Your duress PIN is your PIN number plus one, e.g., if your PIN is 1234 your duress PIN is 1235.
