ͷ School of Performing Arts presents the musical “Sister Act” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, April 27-29 and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, in Wilner Auditorium.
The feel-good musical comedy is based on the 1992 hit film featuring Whoopi Goldberg. The story follows a disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, who is the lead witness in a murder case. She is placed in witness protection in a convent where disguised as a nun she challenges the uptight Mother Superior and continually breaks rules.
Through her passion for gospel music and disco dance, she ultimately transforms the choir and helps her sisters find their voices while she rediscovers her own.
The cast is led by Keshana Cook, Meredith Hollan, Karen Blackmon, Da’Merius Ford, Deiondre Teagle, Angie Thompson and an ensemble of endearing nuns and colorful characters.
The production team is led by director / choreographer Amy Baker Schwiethale. Music direction is by Phil Taylor, with stage managing by Mel Calvery and Taylor Baer.
The script is clever and comedic, featuring songs “Raise Your Voice,” “Fabulous Baby,” “Take Me to Heaven” and “Sunday Morning Fever.”
