Academic Convocation brings 'The Influencing Machine' author to WSU

All current and new students are invited to Academic Convocation at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in Wilner Auditorium. This event blends the WSU Reads Program with other student learning and engagement opportunities, and will feature a student speakers as well as a keynote address by Brooke Gladstone.

Gladstone is the senior editor of NPR鈥檚 All Things Considered and Weekend Edition with Scott Simon. She has been awarded two Peabody awards and a National Press Club award.

Gladstone is also the author of 鈥淭he Influencing Machine,鈥 a nonfiction graphic novel that tells the history of the media while explaining its relationship with the public. The novel has been listed among the top books of 2011 by the New Yorker, Publisher鈥檚 Weekly, Kirkus Reviews and many others.

All WSU freshmen were given a copy of the book at orientation, and for others the book is available on Amazon. Attendants of Academic Convocation can get their book signed by Gladstone at the reception following the program.
