Eight high school seniors have been named Klose Scholars after the annual Doris and Ralph Klose Scholars Day competition, which was held remotely this year.
The Klose Scholarship was established for students pursuing a degree in math or science education in the College of Applied Studies. Once they are admitted into the Teacher Education program during their junior year at ͷ, students will receive an estimated scholarship amount of $19,000 to cover tuition, fees and books. All of this year's recipients will be studying either secondary or middle level math education.
Klose Scholars Day provides students with the opportunity to interview with College of Applied Studies faculty and current Klose Scholars, present a mini-lesson, and participate in a group activity. In addition to the day’s event, students are required to submit two essays with their scholarship application.
The College of Applied Studies congratulates the following recipients:
- Caleb Bartlett, from Bel Aire, Kansas, will graduate from ͷ Heights High School and plans to study secondary education in mathematics.
- John Bergman, from ͷ, will graduate from Bishop Carroll Catholic High School and will study secondary education in mathematics.
- Zaiylah Bronson, from Leavenworth, Kansas, will graduate from Lansing High School and will study education in middle-level mathematics.
- Nate Dao, from ͷ, will graduate from Bishop Carroll Catholic High School and will study education in middle-level mathematics.
- Kaitlyn Helmut, from Towanda, Kansas, will graduate from Circle High School and will study secondary education in mathematics.
- Catherine Jessee, from Olathe, Kansas, will graduate from Olathe East High School and will study education in middle-level mathematics.
- Gabrielle Pritz, from Maize, Kansas, will graduate from Maize South High School and will study education in middle-level mathematics.
- Knowel Taylor, from Kansas City, Missouri, will graduate from Park Hill South High School and will study secondary education in mathematics.
