Meet a Shocker: Raúl Alejandro Rangel Fernández

Raúl Alejandro Rangel Fernández learned how to juggle his commitments and studies while earning a graduate degree in Spanish.

What is your hometown?

Guadalajara, Mexico

What made you choose ͷ?

I chose WSU for its strong community connections between what I want to do and the university and because my parents live in ͷ.

What has been your biggest challenge as a student, and how did you overcome it?

My biggest challenge while I've been a student has probably been juggling so many commitments. It will all pay off whenever I receive my diploma and when I get to travel. 

What's your favorite off-campus location in ͷ?

What would be the title of your autobiography?

"The Mestizo Linguist"

What are your plans after graduation?

I have studied abroad three times, and I'm going on my fourth and fifth study abroad trips this summer; and I save money and take my backpack and just backpack solo travel every chance I get. I also plan to pursue a Ph.D. in linguistics. 

What advice would you give other ͷ State students?

My advice to other ͷ State students is go to events, connect with other professionals in your field, study abroad and never lose sight of your goals and dreams.
