University update for COVID-19
We are all aware of the unique circumstance that people across our country and globe are facing in regard to the COVID-19 Coronavirus. This is a situation that has all of us concerned, yet we must not become panicked. It鈥檚 important to note that at this time, there are no known COVID-19 cases on our campus, in 成人头条 or Sedgwick County.
As President of 成人头条, my number one priority is the student experience. This most especially includes the health and well-being of our students and campus community.
Today, I want to share with the entire campus community some important updates to university operations that will soon be implemented as described below. The following plans apply to the 成人头条 student, faculty, and staff community. WSU Tech will continue communicating to their community and keep me appraised of their actions.

WSU Dance Matrilineage Movement event this week
Matrilineage is a movement event sharing the stories of our memories of our mothers' and grandmothers' homes. This project is a collaboration between the 成人头条 Dance Program, The Lux in downtown 成人头条, and Chandler Dances. WSU Dance undergraduate students researched and created movement sequences based on memories of home, and also interviewed their mothers and grandmothers to capture their stories of home. Recorded audio interviews will be part of the event soundscape.
At the beginning of each Matrilineage event, audience members will be invited to fill out a brief survey to answer questions about their own mother鈥檚 and grandmother鈥檚 homes. These answers (anonymous) will also be part of the soundscape throughout each event. Matrilineage will conclude with a Q&A about process, importance of recording memories, and identity tied to home. This is a perfect event to consider attending with your mother or grandmother.

鈥楴arratives of Food and Migration鈥�
鈥淣arratives of Food and Migration鈥� will be presented by Dr. Mar铆a Alejandra Zambrano from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito at 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, in 258 RSC. The presentation is part of the Latin American and Latinx Studies Series, and sponsored by the Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures and Sigma Delta Pi, Spanish Honors Society.
How to integrate oral history and digital storytelling interview methods in a creative writing class? In this presentation, Zambrano will talk about how to use best-practice interview methods in order to gather primary source material to not only analyze the relationship between migration and food, but also to write narratives of community healing.
Dr. Zambrano is an Associate Professor of Latin American Literature and Creative Writing in the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador. She is in a faculty exchange program with the University of Kentucky this semester. Her current research focuses on the history of Ecuadorian Children鈥檚 Literature and community-based arts pedagogies.
Zambrano is also the founder and director of La Poderosa Media Project, a nonprofit organization that encourages creative autonomy, cultural empathy, and collaborative learning through community-based arts programs in the Americas.

File your taxes with OSMM
The Office for Student Money Management (OSMM) encourages all students, faculty, and staff to file their taxes as soon as possible before the April 15 deadline. We currently partner with the United Way to offer a free online tax program at MyFreeTaxes.com through H&R Block. While our services are free, this software may charge for any individual who has a health savings plan, 1099s, or other Schedule C-D-E tax forms. It does not charge for filing W2s and 1098T.
We also help international students using the Glacier Tax Filing software found on their MyWSU. International students will need to bring all the technology items listed below, including their passport, I-20, and I-94 forms.
Our staff is fully trained to help guide you through the process of doing taxes on your own. Please take this opportunity and see us today. We are open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and take appointments as well as walk-ins. All schedule changes will be posted on our Twitter @WSU_OSMM.

'De la mar a la selva' - Children鈥檚 non-fiction books about the environment
Dr. Mar铆a Alejandra Zambrano from the Universidad San Francisco de Quito will present 鈥淒e la mar a la selva,鈥� children鈥檚 non-fiction books about the environment at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, in 261 RSC. The presentation is in part of the Latin American and Latinx Series sponsored by the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures, and Sigma Delta Pi, Spanish Honor Society.
In an era of uncontrollable amounts of information and unrestricted access to the Web, adults can help children filter what is available to them. One way of organizing this information is the publication of non-fiction books that cover a variety of topics such as history, human rights, politics, sexuality, science, religion, migration, among others.
According to literary critic Ana Garral贸n, non-fiction books have the potential to ignite children鈥檚 curiosity by presenting contemporary and/or problematic topics in creative and interesting ways. Though these books are not necessarily written in a simple language, their format challenges readers鈥� desire to learn through beautiful illustrations, well-written texts, and verifiable scientific evidence. Moreover, the creation of non-fiction books help disseminate knowledge otherwise confined to the academic circles and often considered too complex for younger readers.
In this presentation, Dr. Zambrano will share how we are transforming the research conducted at USFQ鈥檚 Tiputini Biodiversity Research Station (TBRS), into a non-fiction book for children about the Amazonian jaguar.
