Classroom Technology Training Schedule – Fall 2019
Classrooms across campus are equipped with uniform technology and media equipment. Access is available to faculty and staff with consistent keys for most classrooms that are issued during a short training session. We encourage you to bring your personal laptop to test in the room during training. If there are additional needs or questions, please call 978-3588.
Faculty are encouraged to verify that their assigned rooms have the technology they need prior to the start of the semester.
Fall 2019 Classroom Technology Training SchedulePosition for First Year Seminar Faculty Coordinator
The Office of Academic Affairs is seeking a faculty member with a passion for supporting student success and creative curricular development to coordinate the First Year Seminar courses on campus. Applications are due through PeopleAdmin by Friday, June 14.
Responsibilities will include: encouraging and supporting new course development, mentoring faculty in best practices for first year engagement, attending general education meetings when FYS proposals are on the agenda, facilitating assessment of FYS, and tracking CCFs and stipend payments. The coordinator will work closely with the Associate Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management and the Director of Student Success.
Applicants must be tenure track or non-tenure track faculty who have had experience teaching first year seminar courses, and have at least five years of classroom experience.
Panopto to go down for maintenance
WSU’s video production and hosting service, Panopto, will be down for routine maintenance and cloud upgrade from 8-11:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22. It will be unavailable at that time.
After the upgrade, all video creators must download a new version of the Panopto recorder in order to upload videos to the system. Please refer to the Blackboard landing page for instructions about how to download the new recorder after the upgrade.
Grow, Learn, Connect event coming Wednesday, June 12

Tenure and Promotion Workshop tomorrow (Tuesday, June 11) and July 16
All faculty going up for promotion and/or tenure are welcome to attend Tenure and Promotion Workshops this summer. These are working sessions, so please bring your laptop so you can make progress on your dossier. Snacks and coffee provided.

Opportunity to develop new First-Year Seminars on June 13 and July 10
After piloting First-Year Seminars (FYS) for three years, the faculty have approved requiring an FYS course for all first-time-in-college students as part of their general education experience starting in fall 2021. This is an exciting opportunity to add another best practice to our other student success strategies on campus.
Summer presents a good time for new course development. For those wanting to teach a seminar in fall 2020, we recommend you submit your course proposal to your department committee no later than Sept 30.
For tenure and non-tenure track faculty members interested in learning more about how to develop a first year seminar course, Information Sessions are scheduled for:
- 2 p.m. Thursday June 13, in 264 RSC
- 11 a.m. Wednesday July 10, in 240 RSC
Additional sessions will be scheduled in the future and announced in WSU Today.

Registration for WSU Service Standards training is available for June 19!
Did you know that ͷ has a set of Service Standards? These standards are known as Shocker PROUD: Professional, Responsive, Open, Understanding, and Dependable.
WSU Service Standards training will be held from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, in 142 RSC. It’s free and available to all faculty, staff and student employees. Log in to myWSU and register through myTraining.
Tied to the University’s Strategic Enrollment Plan under Goal 1: Develop activities that foster a culture of enrollment growth among faculty, staff and students, these standards identify common things we can all do to create a welcoming environment for all who serve and are served by the university. This training will explore the standards in more detail and ensure that all of us are providing excellent service to everyone we encounter. WSU Foundation end of fiscal year schedule
Requisitions
In order for the WSU Foundation to meet your deadline of making the deposit to reimburse WSU accounts on Monday, June 24, requisitions are due at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 19. These checks will be released on Friday, June 21. Any check needs after June 21 are due at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, for the check run Thursday, June 27.
The WSU Foundation does not encumber funds, and we cannot write any checks for fiscal year 2019 after Friday June 28.

SolidWorks meeting coming June 13 at Experiential Engineering Building
South Central Kansas SolidWorks will host their Q2 User Group meeting for networking and sharing knowledge about SolidWorks computer-aided design. The meeting will take place at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the Experiential Engineering Building, and will include dinner catered by Hog Wild BBQ, two presentation sessions and a prize drawing. Retirement celebration set for Wanda Holt
Join Counseling and Prevention Services for the celebration of Wanda Holt's retirement,
3-5 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at Shocker Grill and Lanes in the basement of the RSC.
Wanda has served the WSU community for 33 years across multiple offices, spending the past 13 years with Counseling and Prevention Services - formerly the Counseling and Testing Center.
Her time included a stint on the Classified Senate, where she served as president helping to transition the university from USS to UP employment. She also completed her bachelor’s degree while employed at the university earning an award for highest GPA in criminal justice. Help us show our appreciation for her outstanding service by joining us for refreshments and karaoke, and wish Wanda luck in her future endeavors.
Volunteers needed for a research study
Researchers in the School of Nursing are looking for volunteers for a nutritional research study that will examine changes in iron absorption with antioxidant supplementation.
Participants will be asked to consume a meal with phytic acid, complete a dietary recall, participate in taste testing and have blood and saliva sample collection during a meal challenge. Participation is expected to last about 2.5 hours total.
