The Strategic Plan Town Hall will be held via from 1-2 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 22).
This university-wide event will be dedicated to updating the Shocker faculty, students, staff, alumni, university partners and the Shocker community on the plan for 2020-21. Join the town hall moderator, WSU Faculty Senate President & School of Music Director Dr. Aleks Sternfeld Dunn as he welcomes President Jay Golden and Executive Vice President and Provost Rick Muma for remarks. Kaye Monk-Morgan, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, will present the refreshed university strategic plan.

Panelists to discuss pandemic's effect on performing arts
Rodney Miller
A panelist of performing artists, moderated by Rodney Miller, dean of the College of Fine Arts, will discuss the disproportionate effect of COVID-19 on the events industry at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.
The performing arts industry was the first to close down and will be the last to fully open up. The industry supports 11 million jobs and generates more than $1.75 trillion a year in direct, indirect and induced spending 鈥� greater than agriculture, broadcasting and telecommunications, auto manufacturing, truck and rail transportation, and computer systems design and related services.
The arts, particularly the performing arts, constitute a majority of this gross domestic product 鈥� more than 4.2% of the national GDP. In Kansas alone, the arts constitute around 3% of the state鈥檚 GDP ($4.2 billion), employing approximately 50,000 Kansans and representing $2.5 billion in salaries alone. When shutdowns occurred in March, this vital aspect of the nation's economy essentially ceased to exist. It ceased to exist on college campuses as well.

NASA in Kansas calls for Teacher Workshop Program proposals
The NASA Kansas Space Grant Consortium (KSGC) Teaching Workshop Program supports the development and implementation of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) educator workshops. NASA is especially interested in to helping teachers bring NASA relevant material and content into middle-school classrooms.
KSGC affiliate proposals are completely awarded by peer review. These awards of $15,000 each are anticipated. Affiliates must identify a $1 commitment for every NASA dollar requested (use of federal matching funds is not allowed).

Virtual panel series seeks to identify critical conversations surrounding the pandemic
How are "expert" perspectives formed in relation to the pandemic? How is research done and what resources are needed?
In this series, library and departmental faculties will explore approaches and methodologies for researching the impacts of COVID-19, as well as issues relating to the disruption and potentials of academic research during a pandemic.

Participate in a UP/USS combined Senate listening discussion
The Unclassified Professional (UP) Senate and University Support Staff (USS) Senates invite you to attend a listening session to discuss the possibility of merging the two Senates to be a unified voice for all university staff. These conversations, which started in 2017, will provide us an opportunity to engage with staff members about the pros and cons of merging the Senates. This is the first step in a semester-long conversation that will culminate in a staff vote and decision in December.
There will be two options for attending a virtual listening session at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28 or 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29. A Zoom link will be sent in advance to those who RSVP. The Campus Traditions Committee is looking for hard-working students to be a part of the team.
This committee is focused on planning and executing 成人头条鈥檚 campus wide traditions events. These events include the university鈥檚 longest standing tradition, Hippodrome, and for the fall, Homecoming. The whole purpose of Hippodrome and Homecoming is to bring the entire 成人头条 State community together to celebrate their Shocker pride.
In order for these events to be successful and welcoming to all students across 成人头条 State, we need representatives from organizations and departments to bring ideas to the table.
The committee meets every Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Members are expected to be present at every meeting and be able to attend / execute events during Homecoming and Hippodrome.

The Shocker Innovation Corps nurtures and supports 成人头条 State entrepreneurial teams interested in accelerating their STEM ideas, research, and product commercialization. Are you a parent of a teenager? If so, this may be a great opportunity for your child to experience what it is like being a part of an online research study.
The INSPYRE Research lab at 成人头条 is conducting a study to explore what makes relationships healthy or unhealthy in teens. The survey will only take about 20 minutes to complete, and a small prize will be given for participation.
Teens must be between the ages of 13-19 and be fluent in English. For easy access, teens can complete this study online, but they need their parent鈥檚 permission first.

The Ulrich Museum of Art is excited to offer a free virtual program with Chicago-based artist and Kansas native Terry Evans at 6 p.m. today (Tuesday, Sept. 22). Like all Ulrich Virtual programs, it is free and open to the public, but registration is required to get the Zoom link.

It's time for the third annual (3MT) competition at 成人头条 State. This year's event will be virtual. The website has been updated to assist students with the new format. Please encourage graduate students to participate in this world-wide event, which is part of the Graduate School's .
There are many benefits with participating in this event, including the more obvious benefit of working on soft skills, that is targeted with the oral presentation. There is also tremendous benefit in honing the ability to distill a research elevator pitch. As the name suggests, they only have three minutes to summarize their research. Participants have until Oct. 5 to , and those who register will need to submit their videos by Oct. 26.
