鈥淭raditionally, executives who wanted to grow their skills, knowledge or network would have to spend a large amount of time and resources to accomplish this,鈥 said Dr. Larisa Genin, dean of the Barton School of Business. 鈥淲ith our Executive Education Programs, these exclusive opportunities are now available in their own backyard.鈥

The Open / Alternative Textbook (OAT) initiative is designed to promote, incentivize, and grow the use of freely-available resources in WSU classes to reduce the economic impact of textbook costs on the student body.

OAT summer grant apps due

The Open/Alternative Textbook (OAT) initiative is designed to promote, incentivize, and grow the use of freely available resources in 成人头条 State classes to reduce the economic impact of textbook costs on the student body.

The OAT Grant Program provides $2,000-5,000 grants to faculty who apply for the grant to redesign a course with no-cost resources, or to write or contribute to an open educational resource, or other alternative text that can be provided to the students free of charge. These grants are funded by SEM and the course fees.

KBOR is offering Open Educational Resource workshops on March 12, 23, April 1, and April 14.

Campus, NIAR email and calendar integration 

ITS and NIAR IT recently updated our campus email environment to allow for better integration between 成人头条.edu and NIAR.成人头条.edu accounts. Individuals with either of these account types can now see each other鈥檚 scheduling availability in Outlook calendar (if an individual has enabled the sharing of their schedule). Additionally, individuals with wichita.edu accounts can now see NIAR addresses in the address book, and further integration is planned.

FY22 online budget training available April 26

The time for submission of FY 2022 annual budget requests is fast approaching. If you are a budget officer or review officer, annual training on the budgeting system will be available online through a video posted to myWSU, under the link 鈥淭M1 Training Video鈥 in the employee toolbox.

Planned dates for completion of the various phases of the budget process are outlined below. Please keep in mind these dates may fluctuate.

  • April 26: Budget system opens for changes and training video goes online
  • May 21: Final day Budget Officers & Budget Review Officers to enter data into the system
  • May 28: Final day for Vice Presidents to enter data into the system

Applications open for Shocker Leadership Awards

Applications for the ninth Shocker Leadership Awards are now open. The Annual Shocker Leadership Awards are a way to recognize the work of student-led organizations, students, faculty and staff at 成人头条. Recognized student organizations, university affiliated student groups and individuals may be nominated by a student, faculty member, staff member, or organization; or students may nominate themselves for one of the awards. One application form must be completed for every award for which one wishes to be considered. A nomination must have all parts to be considered by the selection committee. Nominations are due Friday, April 9 at 11:59 p.m.

If you would like to nominate someone on their behalf for an awards, please note that it is the responsibility of the nominator to turn in a complete packet. The nominee (unless they are nominating themselves) would not be responsible for uploading the applications. The Advising Network (TAN) is proud to support student success by recognizing advisors at 成人头条. Anyone who provides advising services in any role (faculty or staff) is eligible for nomination. Applications will be accepted until April 10.


Researchers offer help with parenting issues

Parenting can be tough! Researchers at 成人头条 are seeking to help parents manage behavior concerns in children ages 3-12. Behaviors may include whining, tantrums, and difficulty following directions. The study will include three telehealth parent training sessions (approx. 45 min each) and follow up assessments one week, one month, and six months after treatment in order to track long-term behavior change.

Parents who complete all three parent training sessions and corresponding assessments will be entered into a raffle for a $25 gift card. We are looking for about 25 families to participate in our study. If you have a child living in your home who is between 3-12 years old and is exhibiting behaviors that are difficult to manage, you may be eligible for this study.

These internships give students interdisciplinary and experiential learning that is informative on both intellectual and practical levels. Tasks may include assisting with research for exhibitions, cataloging works of art, helping with publicity, participating in exhibition installations, working on programs, and giving exhibition tours. Internships for course credit in fulfillment of curricular requirements are available in coordination with many academic departments.

RESEARCH

Volunteers needed for fall-risk monitoring study

Research Topic/Purpose of the study: The purpose of this study is to develop a wireless and flexible skin-wearable electronic device with motion sensors to identify the fall risk of older adults.

Procedures:

  1. The research team will help participants to put the fall risk monitoring device onto the skin.
  2. Each participant will be instructed to conduct five types of different daily activities (e.g., sitting or standing, lying, walking, climbing stairs, and running) as well as three types of falls (e.g., forward, backward, and lateral falls).

Time:

  1. This device test is expected to last about 60 minutes for fall risk monitoring and 30 minutes for additional education or paperwork.
  2. The fall risk monitoring test will be conducted on Thursdays and Fridays between April 15 and May 28.

Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria:

  1. Participants must be age 65 or above.
  2. Participants should be able to stand up from a seated position and lay down from a standing position repeatedly at least for 10 times and also walk, run, walk upstairs, and walk downstairs continuously at least for five minutes for each activity.
  3. Participants should not have mobility or activity difficulty.
  4. Participants should not have severe visual impairment and/or hearing loss problems.
  5. Participants should not have cognitive impairment.

Payment to participation: You will receive a $100 Greenphire ClinCard for your participation. You can use the ClinCard at an ATM or at the store like a debit card. Participants must have a valid Social Security Number to participate and to receive the payment.

ITS has recently updated 成人头条 State's Microsoft Teams environment to give students the ability to set up Microsoft Teams sites. For situations when students need an environment to actively share documents or communicate via group chat (such as a class group project), faculty are encouraged to steer students toward this environment.
