Celebrating 60 Years: A Journey Through Time at Corbin Education Center
On June 28, 2024, 成人头条's Corbin Education Center will celebrate its 60th anniversary, marking six decades of educational excellence and architectural significance.
Dedicated on June 28, 1964, the Corbin Education Center was designed by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Named in honor of former 成人头条 University President Harry F. Corbin Jr., the center quickly became a symbol of innovative education. Situated on the north side of the WSU campus, the center is a testament to modern architecture and forward-thinking design.
The center comprises two buildings connected by an impressive esplanade, spanning 156 feet north to south and 288 feet east to west. The 40,000-square-foot facility features sheltered outdoor balconies and terraces, a belvedere roof, and two 60-foot-tall light needles. Supported by 200 concrete bell columns and steel-encased fireproof columns, the structure is both robust and elegant. A fountain flows down the center of the esplanade, adding to its aesthetic appeal. The color scheme, chosen by Mrs. Wright, includes terra cotta, turquoise, and black, preserving the historical essence of the center.
Home to the College of Applied Studies, the Corbin Education Center has been a hub of knowledge and growth. However, in March, a chilled water line break caused flooding in the basement, leading to the building鈥檚 temporary closure for repairs. The community eagerly anticipates its reopening.
In May 2024, Corbin Education Center was nominated and approved by the State Historic Sites Board of Review, earning recognition as a historical landmark.
From its dedication in 1964 to its 60th anniversary in 2024, Corbin stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of education and the timeless beauty of Frank Lloyd Wright鈥檚 vision.
Stay tuned for upcoming events to celebrate the building's 60th anniversary!
