Masters' of Education: Counseling
Higher Education Counseling Track
Overview
Many graduates of our counseling program may find employment in higher education settings for a variety of positions in student affairs such as admissions and student advisement by completing the higher education counseling track. Students who complete the Higher Education Counseling track are eligible to apply to the Ed. D. in Educational Leadership.
Degree Requirements
The M. Ed in Counseling, higher education counseling track consists of 45 graduate hours. The courses include:
- A 3 credit hour elective (choose from the following:)
- CESP 811 Principles of Measurement and Program Evaluation (3)
- SMGT 801 Management in Sport (3)
- CLES 872 Finance and Human Resources in Colleges and Universities (3)
- CLES 874 Legal and Ethical Issues in Higher Education (3)
Admission Requirements
When applying for admission to the Master's in Counseling program, you must submit to the Graduate School:
- A completed graduate school application
- Official transcripts with 3.00 GPA for the last 60 hours
Once the Graduate School forwards the application to the Department, it will request:
- A statement of professional goals
- A resum茅
- The names, addresses and phone numbers of three professional references to provide reference information
Upon receipt of this information, the departmental screening committee will make recommendations concerning admission decisions for the master's program in counseling.
