Mathematics and Statistics
Faculty research in Math/Stat includes Applied Mathematics and Numerical Analysis, Analysis (inverse problems, partial differential equations, several complex variables), Differential Geometry and Topology, and Statistics. The strengths of the Math/Stat faculty consist of research productivity in areas related to the PhD program, recognized expertise in research, and research grants.

Emprise Bank Data Lab 
- In Spring 2023, three graduate students participated and completed two data science projects: (1) Customer churn analytics and predictions, and (2) Time series forecasting on teller transactions.
- After graduation, one student was offered a job as a data scientist at Emprise Bank.
- In Fall 2023, two graduate students participated and completed two data science projects: (1) Customer text response topic tagging, and (2) Customer satisfaction and sentiment analysis.
PetroPower 
- Since last winter, two PhD students have been working on data science project.
- The current grant is titled 鈥淚MU Data Compression and Anomaly Detection.鈥�
- This project consists of two separate and intertwined goals: compressing the existing time series data and detecting locations of abnormal data observations.
- Through students鈥� diligent work, we have been able to pre-process the original raw data that is overwhelmingly dominated by gravity to remove such effects.
