Audition Information

Jazz auditions will be held on Friday, August 16, in the Duerksen Fine Arts Center room C-104 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. You can sign up for a time slot using the link below.

All students wishing to audition for the Jazz Program must complete the Jazz Program Information Form

  • There will be a short sight-reading excerpt provided to you during the audition.
  • It is optional to improvise but encouraged. A backing track of a blues will be provided. If you wish to play something different, please provide your backing track.

**Those students participating in Shocker Sound Machine band camp, must contact Lucas Hulett, Director of Athletic Bands, to coordinate a time to be excused from camp to perform your jazz audition.**

Saxophone and brass excerpts:

* Lead Trumpet - Medium swing / high G# in 156 is optional.

 


Rhythm section excerpts:
  • Guitar and piano - play the melody then comp two choruses
  • Bass - play the melody then walk two choruses
  • Please note there is an extra bar in the etude. Please remove measure 13 from the etude.

Percussion materials:
