Honors Student Sarah Myose Completes Mural, "Dreams and Wishes"

Honors Baccalaureate student Sarah Myose was chosen to revamp the stairs of Clinton Hall. 

This project is part of a larger place-making initiative on campus to encourage students to pick the University as a destination for recreation as well as education.

Myose's mural, ""Dreams and Wishes," is complete and on view for all of campus.

WHEAT Board Game Night

Office of Diversity and Inclusion Launching LGBT Ambassador Society

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is excited to start the LGBTQ+ Shocker Ambassadors. Are you interested in building the foundation of LGBTQ+ Ambassadors? The ambassador program will help to amplify the voices of LGBTQ students while creating a visible network of student leaders. Join an organization that will provide leadership, mentorship, and advocacy opportunities at 成人头条 State, and in the greater 成人头条 community.

U.S. Diplomat to Speak about Space Exploration 

The 成人头条 Space Initiative (WSI) kicks off the second year of its Space Exploration Lecture Series with a talk from Michael Michaud. Michaud was a Foreign Service Officer for 32 years before turning full time to writing. He is author of 鈥淐ontact With Alien Civilizations,鈥 as well as a novel and 35 articles and journal papers on the implications of possible future contact with extraterrestrial intelligence.
   
Michaud鈥檚 talk, 鈥淓xtraterrestrial Intelligence: Grand Thought Experiment or Possible Future Discovery?鈥, will discuss issues related the impact of a future discovery of extraterrestrial intelligent life. It will take place at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, in 100 Lindquist Hall. As always, WSI talks are free and open to the public. Visit our website for more information at wichita.edu/space.
   

His Foreign Service assignments include Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Science and Technology, Director of the State Department's Office of Advanced Technology, and Counselor for Science, Technology, and Environment at the American embassies in Paris and Tokyo.
   
Michaud led successful negotiations for science and technology cooperation agreements with the Soviet Union and Poland, and played a major role in the negotiation of a new space cooperation agreement with the Soviet Union. He was one of the initiators of U.S.-Soviet anti-satellite arms control negotiations and served on the U.S. delegation.

 

Moon Landing 50th Anniversary Essay Competition - Cash Prizes

The 成人头条 Space Initiative and 成人头条 are cosponsoring an essay competition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Apollo 11 Moon landing. The competition is open to all undergraduates in Kansas Universities. The NASA Kansas Space Grant Consortium is funding the competition. 

Prizes of $1,000, $500, and $250 will be awarded to the top three finalists. The first-place finalist will read their paper at the symposium, "Celebrating the Scientific Legacy of NASA and Apollo", taking place on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at 成人头条 State University.

Emerging & Engaging Leaders Applications due Sept. 9

Student Involvement offers a variety of programs for students to explore and develop leadership abilities. Emerging Leaders matches you with an upperclassman mentor to develop your leadership potential. Program participants attend workshops, activities and grow through reflection. Engaging Leaders offers the opportunity to observe various leadership styles utilized by local industry leaders. Program participants will explore philosophies and styles of leadership to become more comfortable with the transition from the classroom to the boardroom.
   
These programs may be taken for credit or you may participate without enrolling for credit. Students adwho are interested in the Honors Leadership Track are encouraged to enroll for credit. These credits may be applied to that track or as Directed Electives of the Scholar Track. Please visit with the Honors Academic Advisor to learn more about the Leadership Track!
