TODAY! Join Honors for a Fall Pause: Cookies and Cocoa | Friday, Oct 27

Take a study break and join us in the Cohen Honors College for some cookies and cocoa. Drop by between 3pm-4pm on Friday, October 27 at the Honors College located in Shocker Hall Building A for a warm beverage and a sweet treat before you head into the weekend. Cookies, cocoa, hot tea, and coffee will be available.

SGA's 3rd Annual Diversity Week | Oct 30 to Nov 3

Student Government Association is proud to present the 3rd annual Diversity Week! This week is designed to not only increase student engagement on campus, but also decrease the incidences of bias, harassment, and discrimination.

Diversity Week is in partnership with several offices and student organizations and offers programs and experiences that build an inclusive culture amongst the student body at 成人头条. This year's theme is A Different World: Learn from Others and Value Everyone (L.O.V.E.).

This week is sponsored by Student Government Association, Office of Diversity & Inclusion, Student Engagement, Advocacy & Leadership, Office of Student Success, Provost's Office, Chief Diversity Officer, Housing & Residence Life, and WSU Foundation.

Deadline to Withdraw | Oct 31

Last day to officially withdraw from a full-semester fall course with a 鈥榃鈥� is on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023. 

BILL'S Trip - Location Announcement - Applications Open! | Nov 15

We are headed to the Grand Canyon! This year BILL鈥橲 Trip (Building Investment in Lifelong Leadership & Service) has partnered with Grand Canyon National Park for a week (January 6-13, 2024) of service-learning, exploring stewardship and servant leadership in partnership with the National Park Service. Named in honor of Bill Cohen, Bill鈥檚 Trip is an academic service-learning experience in which students travel to a selected National Park Service unit and spend the week serving and learning about the National Parks. Students will enroll in HNRS398J-Leading Through Serving (1 credit or 3 credit option). All student travel is funded through a generous gift in honor of Bill Cohen. Students will only be responsible for course tuition. We have also expanded our capacity for this program and are excited to have space for even more awesome Honors students!

LAST CHANCE! Sign Up to See "Killers of the Flower Moon"? | Nov 15

The Cohen Honors College is sponsoring a film screening of the film 鈥淜illers of the Flower Moon鈥� for Native American Heritage month in November.

鈥淎t the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. Based on a true story and told through the improbable romance of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone), 鈥淜illers of the Flower Moon鈥� is an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal. Paraguay Honors Service-Learning Study Abroad Program | Nov 17

Come study abroad in Asuncion, Paraguay with other Honors Students and WSU faculty! Students will have the chance to learn about Paraguayan Culture and South American Culture through observation.
The application deadline is November 17, 2023.

The Honors Education at Research Universities (HERU) conference 鈥淒ialogue, Debate, and Discourse: Having the Hard Conversations鈥� takes place at the University of Kentucky May 20-22, 2024.

Honors Collaborative Research | HNRS 486 | CRN 22829 
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30-10:45 
Who: Dr. Gary Brooking 
This course is designed to expose students majoring in various disciplines to an opportunity to meet and invite collaborations that cultivate an interdisciplinary research experience. Students discuss best practice in academic research and research ethics and learn of complementary approaches to research in different subject areas.

History of Genocide Past and Present | HNRS 305 | CRN 24884
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:00-12:15 
Who: Keith Pickus
Examines the multifaceted causes of genocide in the 20th and 21st centuries. Among the topics covered are the historical roots and definitions of genocide and how groups defined as "others" or "outsiders" are targeted for extermination. Central concepts discussed are the development of exclusionary national identities, the role of political leadership and the means by which genocidal violence unfolds.

Honors Colloquium Explored Leadership & the Art of Noticing

Tasks such as making bracelets or piling familiar objects on a table may not seem like leadership development, but aren鈥檛 they? Colloquium students were challenged this week to consider how leadership may depend on the art of noticing.
