Lead for Tomorrow- Spring 2023 Applications due November 1
|
Have you heard about Lead for Tomorrow? In spring, we鈥檙e launching this new interprofessional
leadership experience in the Cohen Honors College, and applications are due November
3rd. To say we are excited would be an understatement.
Complex ideas. Messy Problems. Connecting as Leaders. All while engaging in meaningful
courses and engaging travel. This is Lead for Tomorrow. Let me put it this way- What
happens when you bring together 5 faculty thought leaders from 5 different departments, 2 classes 鈥 spring and summer, and 1 focus on understanding
how to lead for social change through visual and verbal stories? You build an intellectual
community of honors students and faculty that students have shared is the highlight
of their Honors experience, their favorite class, and an awesome opportunity to learn
and travel.
Here is a great testimonial from one of our Faculty Thought Leaders- 鈥The collaboration of instructors leading up to this class has been amazing and I believe
it is going to be absolute awesome experience for students to dive into all the different
approaches to learning around a conceptual topic. This is the class I would have wanted
to take, where you study a topic or theme through a team of instructors delivering
a variety of perspectives and a different student learning experience each week.鈥
- Doug Stucky, Faculty in Design Thinking.
We know Honors students have big dreams and ask big questions that don鈥檛 fit neatly
into disciplinary models and majors. They want to leave a legacy. That鈥檚 what Lead
for Tomorrow is all about. For more information, including how to apply, visit. (Costs associated with travel are covered by a gift from Dorothy and Bill Cohen.)

Honors College Black Lives Matter Class Field Trip

Pictured is Dr. Harrison's Black Lives Matter Course along with the First Gentleman
of the university, Rick Case, and the Chief Diversity Officer, Dr. .Marche Fleming-Randle.
The BLM course explores a wide range of diversity related content and encourage students
to exchange rich perspectives of how they each make sense of the world we live in.
On Wednesday, October 5, the entire Honors College class was invited to attend a
lunch reception to honor former Shocker, Mr. Cal Bruton. My Bruton's life story speaks
to the core of what we discuss in class, as he shared his experiences in diversity
as a New York born athlete who came to 成人头条 State for basketball and has since
moved to Australia where he currently resides with his family. This event was a great
example of 成人头条 State continuing promote diversity throughout the state of Kansas
and the world. |
Congrats Chloe!

The hit song "All I Do is Win" by DJ Khalid may as well be the theme song for the
成人头条 State Bowling team. In fact, Shocker Bowling is the most successful sports
program on the entire campus. With a combined 22 men's and women's national championships,
the Shocker Bowling Team is hands down the most accomplished bowling program in the
nation. And it doesn't stop at 成人头条 State. A total of 50 former and current Shockers
have represented our country as part of Team USA bowling and last year alone, 22 Shockers
bowled on the Professional Bowlers Tour. With that in mind, many great student bowlers
come to 成人头条 State with hopes of becoming a part of this elite group, but on the
best of the best make the cut. That said, it is a BIG DEAL to congratulate Honors
Ambassador and Game Design Major Chloe Ciecko for recently being selected as a member
of the Shocker Bowling Team. This just one of many examples of taking "More Meaningful
Work" outside the classroom and into the world, as well as an example that speaks
to the overall excellence that resides within the Cohen Honors College. Great Job

Visit the Current Students Webpage For All Things Honors
Honors offers students a different way to do their degree, designed to be broader,
deeper, or more complex than traditional college study. Most Honors courses & experiences also meet general education or major requirements.
They simply push you farther. They may require additional research or creative activity,
encourage collaboration or independent problem solving, or engage you outside the
classroom in integrative and reflective applied learning.
Visit the Current Students page on the college website for general information about Honors curriculum paths
and other opportunities in Honors. We also have a suggested honors course sequence page that shows different options for honors experiences over four years. You can
view and change your honors track in the Change of Major app in your MyWSU portal,
and the honors academic advisor, Jessi Raburn, is available by appointment virtually
or in person to guide you as you make decisions. Contact her at jessica.raburn@wichita.edu.
