Shockappella: Kind of Like Pitch Perfect

Transitioning from high school to college, the extracurricular activities change drastically. There are so many options for clubs and groups that it can be overwhelming, and you may miss a few. When I came to college, I had no idea what to expect, and I'll tell you one thing: I never thought I would join an a cappella group.

Coming to 成人头条 State, I didn't know there even was an a cappella group on campus, and I had zero experience with it. All I knew was that I loved to sing, and I didn't think I would be able to continue my singing passion without declaring it as my study. That all changed when my roommate freshman year and I found out there would be Shockappella auditions within the first couple weeks of the semester. We both ended up auditioning and made it in. I have now finished my third year of college and third year of being in Shockappella, and it has been the highlight of my collegiate career.

Through Shockappella I have met all of my closest friends, and even ended up being roommates with them this past year. COVID-19 took away the experience for a while, but now that we are back to being in person, I can't wait to gain even more memories. We perform the national anthem at games, sing at local events and compete at the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella. We prepare all year for this competition and placed third this year.

If you're an incoming freshman, or even a current student, be on the lookout for the clubs that aren't always publicized. It may just introduce you to your best friends and bring your favorite memories throughout your time in college!

Shockappella is a student-led, competitive mixed a cappella ensemble at 成人头条 State University. The groups perform competitively each year at the ICCA (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella) competition. If you are interested in auditioning, email shockappellachoir@gmail.com
