This award is meaningful to me because it shows that hard work and dedication pays off. Being recognized as one of 25 talented young leaders is an honor. It is a great source of motivation to keep striving to be the best version of myself. Looking ahead, I am determined to make a positive impact and grow as a leader in both my profession and my community.
As a new student, I encourage you to embrace independence. College is a time when self-motivation and discipline are crucial for success. Ultimately, no one but yourself will shape your path. Build a routine that works for you and commit to it鈥攖his consistency will set you apart from many of your peers. Take risks and don't be afraid of rejection; the worst thing someone can say is "no." Apply for internships, pursue scholarships, and seek out opportunities that WSU offers. These experiences are invaluable, and they鈥檒l help you understand what employers are looking for, while also demonstrating your work ethic and persistence. Most importantly, remember to enjoy the journey. You're only a freshman once, so make the most of it. Create lasting memories, engage with campus life, and take full advantage of the opportunities that come your way.
I鈥檝e been fortunate to have three incredible mentors who鈥檝e shaped who I am today. My grandpa, Ronald, started with nothing but a dream, working two jobs while raising a family and building our family farm. His favorite quote, "Happiest are those who dream dreams and are willing to pay the price," always reminds me that success requires both vision and sacrifice. My father, Scott, worked long hours as a production worker and as a farmer to provide for our family. He showed me that success isn鈥檛 just about what you achieve but also about the strength you build through perseverance and dedication. My mother, Sandy, an immigrant, taught me to seize every opportunity, knowing that many don鈥檛 have the same chances. Her resilience has given me a deep sense of gratitude and responsibility. Each of them has played a unique role in my journey, and I鈥檓 deeply grateful for the wisdom and values they鈥檝e imparted to me.
