Thanks to all of their talents and hard work, as of December 31, 2022, WSU researchers under Academic Affairs have submitted proposals budgeting a total of $44,492,602, received $23,992,544 in awards, and generated $1,996,162 in indirect cost recovery thus far for FY2023. However, the last number of IDC recovery will likely change after the new F&A rates have been finalized for an effective date of July 1, 2022, following negotiations with the federal government, as described below in an Announcement.

Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) / Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR): Chief Scientist Distinguished Lecture Series Featuring Dr. Yann LeCun: February 15, 2023
鈥淭he Talk is Titled: A Path Towards Autonomous Machine Intelligence. In this talk, we will discuss cognitive architecture for autonomous learning agents capable of planning and reasoning. The centerpiece of the architecture is a hierarchical world model, trained with self-supervised learning, with which the system can predict the consequences of its actions and plan sequences of actions to fulfill an objective. The world model uses a new type of deep learning architecture called H-JEPA (Hierarchical Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture) which can perform predictions at multiple time scales and multiple levels of abstraction.鈥�
Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU): Research and University Partnerships: 2023 ORAU Annual Council Meeting: March 6-7, 2023
ORAU鈥檚 2023 Annual Meeting of the Council of Sponsoring Institutions will be held March 6-7, 2023 and is focused on 鈥淐limate Security and Environmental Justice: Pathways to Achieving the 2050 Carbon Net-Zero Goal.鈥� Experts and leaders from academia, federal agencies, and national organizations will share their views on technology innovation and transformation; science-based models for an environmentally equitable society; and future workforce development needs. The Annual Meeting is free to attend, and is open to faculty, students, and administration at ORAU member universities. Registration is required, but there is no limit on the number of attendees from each university.

Learn to Use BeoShock for your Advanced Research Computing Needs
成人头条 continues to host Beoshock, a High-performance Computing Cluster (HPC). This HPC is available and free to faculty members, researchers and students engaged in course work or research activities. BeoShock runs the CentOS Linux operating system and features approximately 720 processor cores, two high memory compute nodes with 1.5 terabytes of memory, and four graphics processing unit (GPU) accelerators. BeoShock also has a variety of software tools that may be helpful in your research endeavors, such as Matlab, Mathematica, R, Python and many more. A lifelong 成人头条n, I am a graduate of WSU (BBA & MPA) and Washburn University (MBA). After a 13-year tenure in local and state government, I joined WSU in 2013, starting at the School of Nursing as Manager of Business and Fiscal Affairs. In July 2022, I joined the Office of Research as Research Grant Administrator in the Post Award Team. Working at WSU is an opportunity to meet, work and share laughter with hundreds of individuals across campus and that why I truly love working here. In my personal time, I enjoy spending time with my family, if we are not driving our four boys all over 成人头条 going to any sporting events from basketball to baseball, on a rare occasion I go to dinner with my wife. I also enjoy reading John Grisham novels, attending Music Theatre 成人头条 shows, gardening as well as volunteering at WAAL Rescue as a foster parent to doggies that need a temporary home. Analytics for Equity Initiative, Led by National Science Foundation
The Analytics for Equity Initiative builds on the Evidence-Based Policymaking Act and E.O.13985 by piloting a new way to support social, economic, and behavioral sciences research that leverages federal data assets (ensuring privacy is protected and data are secure) and scientific advances in researching equity-related topics for greater public benefit. The goal of this effort is to fund researchers to produce rigorous empirical evidence and research in equity-related topics aligned to agency Learning Agendas that federal agencies and other organizations can use to increase the impact of equity-focused evidence-based strategies. National Institutes of Health Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Firearm Injury and Mortality Prevention Research
The purpose of this Notice is to highlight interest in research to improve understanding of the determinants of firearm injury, the identification of those at risk of firearm injury (including self- and other-directed, victims and perpetrators, accidental injury), the development, piloting, and testing of innovative interventions to prevent firearm injury and mortality, and the examination of approaches to improve the implementation of existing, evidence-based interventions to prevent firearm injury and mortality.

REMINDER - Changes to WSU Indirect Cost Recovery Rates
Negotiations with the federal government on WSU鈥檚 new F&A (Facilities and Administration) rates, effective 1 July 2022, are almost complete. We anticipate the following significant changes to the Academic Affairs rates: On Campus Organized Research rate decreasing from the current 48% to a new rate of 40%, the On Campus Other Sponsored Activities rate decreasing from the current 30% to a new rate of 19% and the Off Campus Other Sponsored Activities rate decreasing from the current 26% to a new rate of 17%. We will announce the final rates as soon as they are negotiated. The new rates will impact your proposal and award budgets, as well as the distribution and availability of F&A funds used to support research activities on campus.
REMINDER - National Science Foundation Makes Changes to Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI)
NSF has made several changes to its Major Research Instrumentation Program. Applications for FY24 will now be due between October 15 and November 15, 2023. Thus, WSU is updating its internal competition dates for next year, and Notices of Intent to apply for the FY24 MRI program will be due to proposals@wichita.edu by May 1, 2023 at 12noon. Cost sharing is waived for the next five years, and the maximum allowed under Track 1 has increased to $1,400,000. Finally, the new Track 3 is specifically for proposal requests that 鈥渋nclude the acquisition, development, installation, operation and maintenance of equipment and instrumentation to reduce consumption of helium.鈥�
