Eligibility for Retirement
Eligibility guidelines for retirement are generally based on an employee's age and years of service. These guidelines vary between retirement systems.
Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) 403(b) Mandatory Retirement Plan
55 years of age with 10+ years of service
OR
60 years of age with any years of service
Kansas Public Employee Retirement System (KPERS)
All Tiers - Early Retirement with Reduced Benefits
Age 55 with 10+ years of service (including rounding quarters)
The amount of reduction in benefits for early retirees is calculated based on age at time of early retirement. For an estimate of the reduction in your monthly benefit amount, contact KPERS at 1-888-275-5737.
Tier 1
Age 62 with 10 years of service (including rounding quarters)
OR
Age 65 with 5 years of service (including rounding quarters)
OR
Age + years of service (including rounding quarters) = 85 ("Rule of 85")
Tiers 2 & 3
Age 60 with 30 years of service (including rounding quarters)
OR
Age 65 with 5 years of service (including rounding quarters)
Kansas Police and Firemen's Retirement System (KP&F)
All Tiers - Early Retirement with Reduced Benefits
Age 50 with 20 years of service (including rounding quarters)
