The Winter Intersession

Residents who are moving out at the end of Fall (halfway through their contract period) must move out by the December deadline listed above. The ability to stay on-campus during the winter intersession is only granted to residents who will continue living with us through the Spring semester. Residents who choose to move out in January (closer to the start of the semester) will be charged a nightly rate for each night they stayed during the winter intersession as well as any additional contract cancellation fees.

Preparing for Move-Out

When you complete your checkout, your room and building access will be deactivated. Be sure to have everything out of your room before checking out. To ensure a smooth and efficient move-out process, follow these steps:

  1. Thoroughly clean your room, including vacuuming, dusting, and wiping down surfaces. Don鈥檛 forget to clean out your refrigerator and dispose of any perishable items.
  2. Begin packing your belongings well in advance. Use sturdy boxes and label them clearly with your name and room number.
  3. Consider donating any items you no longer need. Donation bins will be available in the lobby of each dormitory.
  4. Ensure you have all of your mail and packages (including letters, magazines, and packages).
  5. Return all checked out items (cleaning supplies etc.) to the front desk.
  6. Don't forget your bicycle!
  7. Grab additional trash bags from your building's front desk. Dispose of your garbage properly in available dumpsters.

During Check-Out

  • Moving carts are available for 1 hour while you are moving your things. You may check out carts from the front desk. We recommend planning ahead with your packing. Failure to return your moving cart may result in a $25 moving bin fee added to your student account.
  • Complete checkout via one of the methods below.

Option 1: Front Desk Checkout

Let our front desk staff know you are ready to checkout of your room. Return physical key card to staff directly.

Option 2: Self Checkout

Complete the Self Check-Out form on your Shocker Housing portal under your spring booking in the "My Room" tab. Return physical key cards to the express checkout boxes near your building's front desk.

Failure to return a physical SALTO key card may result in a $25 lost access card fee added to your student account.

FAQ

Inspections

All room spaces are subject to mandatory inspections after the student has vacated. Inspections are completed by members of Housing and Residence Life staff. Your room and any shared spaces should be in good working condition, free from dirt, grime, and damage.

Room Damages and Charges

If your room is inspected and found to be excessively dirty or damaged, you will be charged for the amount and type of cleanliness or damage violation(s). The charges will appear on your student account on/before June 1st.

Extension Requests

Every May, Housing welcomes dozens of camps, conferences and summer residents to live in our residential halls during the summer which is why we require students to move out of their spaces by a designated contract end date. We recommend that residents plan ahead for their departure from campus whether you will be returning home, moving to a new off-campus living situation or another living arrangement. If you cannot move out by the specified contract deadline, you must complete a Spring Extension Request found in your Shocker Housing Portal. All extension requests must be approved by a Housing staff member, and you will receive a confirmation email if you request is approved or denied. Common extension requests reasons include: graduation, school-sponsored activities, athletic/post-season athletic events, or international/late flights home.

Approved requests incur a flat rate, per night charge that will be billed to your student account. Approvals are generally given at no more than four additional night past the contract end date.

If denied, you will be required to move out by the designated contract end date. Without an approved extension, your key and building access will be shut off at this time.

Submit your extension as early as possible to ensure you still have access to your space as necessary.

What if I leave things in my room?

Any items left in rooms at the time of inspection will be bagged and tagged as your belongings. In the event you leave something important, you may return to collect items within 2 weeks of your move-out date. After the 2 weeks are up, items will be forfeited鈥攅ither disposed or donated.

I will be living with housing in the summer. Do I need to fill out an extension request?

If you are currently staying with us in the spring, and will be staying with us through the summer, you do not need to fill out an extension request. You will be notified via email when your summer room is clean and available for you to move to. Please be aware that all spring residents who plan to live with us in the summer need to be available and on campus during the month of May so you can move your belongings when told to do so. Students who are away from campus, or unavailable to move their items, may be charged additional fees.
