Oct. 20, 2020 鈥 The Kansas Legislature in 2011 made a commitment to invest $105 million statewide over the next decade with the purpose of increasing the number of engineers available to industry. For its $35 million share of that money 鈥 granted under the University Engineering Initiative Act (UEIA) 鈥 成人头条 State College of Engineering pledged to double the number of bachelor鈥檚 degrees it awarded annually. The aggressive goal was surpassed this past academic year as the college awarded 380 bachelor鈥檚 degrees.

September 4, 2020 - 成人头条鈥檚 Instructional Design and Access team, part of the Media Resource Center, worked with faculty over the summer to continue to improve hybrid learning. IDA took its one-day Academic Resources Conference and turned it into a week of training, via Zoom, in June and again in August before classes started. Another week is scheduled in January to prepare spring classes.
Aug. 26, 2020 鈥 成人头条 has been named a founding member of a newly formed AI Institute for Foundations of Machine Learning (IFML), established by a $20 million grant from the National Science Foundation.
Aug. 19. 2020 鈥 The first talk in 成人头条 State鈥檚 Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences 鈥淧erspectives on the Pandemics: Part II鈥 series will feature Dinorah Azpuru. A professor of political science, Azpuru researches issues related to democracy. Her talk, 鈥淒emocracy in the world in times of COVID-19,鈥 will explore how the pandemic has affected democratic societies globally.

July 27, 2020 - 成人头条 student Kristen Bruce works as a software tester for Flint Hills Group, founded by Shocker alum Dave Cunningham. Over the past year, Bruce played an important role in Flint Hills Group鈥檚 work with McAlister, a fuel distributor and wholesaler in Wellington. McAlister needed to replace its software used to monitor fuel flow for billing. Bruce helped Flint Hills Group beat coming issues and move to a new system, while some of McAlister鈥檚 competition encountered problems.
July 23, 2020 鈥 The Advanced Robotics Manufacturing (ARM) Institute, which receives funding from the U.S. Department of Defense, recently awarded 成人头条 State $250,000 to assist in creating a workforce development database focused on compiling a map of educational programs and resources that provide skills required for today鈥檚 advanced robotics and manufacturing careers.
July 22, 2020 - The 成人头条 College of Engineering sponsors GoBabyGo, an interdisciplinary program that modifies toy cars for use by children with disabilities. The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the semester and several students returned over the past month to help finish and deliver the six cars.
