Sherr Scholarship awarded to 7 CHP students
The College of Health Professions is proud to announce the winners of the third annual Sam and Rosemary Sherr Dean鈥檚 Excellence Award (Scholarship/Fellowship) for academic year 2021-22. Each year all departments granting academic degrees in the CHP nominate one student for the Sherr Scholarship Award. The scholarship winner will be awarded $10,000 and all other student nominees will also receive $4,000.

- Rola Khaleel, from Zarqa, Jordan, is an Audiology student in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Additional Sherr Scholarship winners
Six additional students will be awarded $4,000 from the Sherr Scholarship Program for the upcoming 2021-22 academic year.
- Sarah Buie, from Derby, Kansas, is a triple-major with Health Science, Psychology and Health Science Management.
- Angel Holguin, from Lyons, Kansas, is a student in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
- Dane Mitchell, from Perry, Kansas, is a graduate student in the Physician Assistant program.
- Rosangela Pino-Alonso, from Sancti Spiritus, Cuba and Miami, Florida, is a student in the Department of Dental Hygiene.
- Brooke Schutte, from Turner, Michigan, is a graduate student in the Physical Therapy program.
- Lydia Schwertzfeger, from 成人头条, Kansas, is a graduate student in the School of Nursing.
Kansas Severe Weather Awareness Week
In conjunction with the National Weather Service, the State of Kansas will participate in , March 1-5.
At 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, Sedgwick County Emergency Management Services will sound the severe weather sirens throughout the county. In past years, 成人头条 State has used this annual drill to have all employees, students and visitors report to their severe weather shelter area. However, this year, due to social distancing restrictions, we will not report to the designated severe weather shelter areas.
Instead, use this opportunity to review where your severe weather shelter area is in your building.

Office hours are student hours. When is the last time you connected to one of your faculty members during their 鈥渙ffice hours?鈥� Do you know what that term means? These are specific times that instructors have set aside to meet with students to answer questions about content from class, visit about research or chat about career options in their field. Faculty and instructors want to help you succeed, so check out the hours on their syllabus and visit them. If, for no other reason, to introduce yourself and say 鈥渉ello!鈥�
Innovation Works competition with cash prizes for student teams
The 成人头条 Aerospace Engineering and NASA in Kansas office is excited to announce the first Innovation Works Competition, sponsored by Lockheed Martin. This is a team competition for current full time 成人头条 State students March 12-14. Teams compete by providing an innovative approach to real-life challenges faced every day by industry and government. A contest theme and focus will be announced on March 12. Teams will periodically present short elevator pitches to judges during sessions over a 48-hour period (Friday to Sunday). Scoring is based on problem understanding, solution uniqueness, demonstrated value of the solution, and the team鈥檚 overall effectiveness communicating.
There will be two categories, Undergraduate and Graduate, with cash prizes for each of $3,000 for First Place, $2,000 for Second Place, and $3,000 for Third Place.
Student teams must be three to four members and include at least one current engineering major. If the team includes any graduate students, it must compete in the graduate category.

ShiftSpace seeks food-related art for ICT Community Fridge project
Help ShiftSpace fill up its oversized kitchen with food-related 2D and 3D art! This spring, ShiftSpace is teaming up with the ICT Community Fridge project. Rooted in mutual aid and justice, the ICT Community Fridge project aims to provide free food to any member of the 成人头条 community who needs it. Our goal is to create a food-themed show that also functions as a drop-off location for donations of dry goods. Your job is to make art to fill our oversized fridge and the gallery as a symbolic act of inspiration.
Participants are invited to create food-themed works of art and deliver them to the gallery located inside Groover Labs at 334 N. St. Francis St. from Feb. 19 to March 2. The gallery hours are 9 a.m.鈥�5 p.m. Monday through Friday. All 成人头条 State students and community members are welcome to participate.
Participating artists must pick up work between 1 and 3 p.m. March 27 or by appointment.
Steve Clark YMCA Kicks off its Community Fundraising Campaign
YMCA鈥檚 aren鈥檛 just a gym. They鈥檙e part of an organization focused on 鈥渂uilding healthy spirit, mind, and body for all,鈥� which can include anything from preschool activities to nutrition classes and so much more.
Contrary to popular belief, membership fees and grant support isn鈥檛 enough to keep all the YMCA programming and operations going year after year. This is why every year we host a community fundraising campaign, and this year your contribution would go to help the Steve Clark YMCA here at 成人头条 State provide income-based financial assistance for families surrounding 成人头条 State to be members of the YMCA.
YMCA FREE Outreach Program and the need:
- Teen Job Prep 鈥� NEED: $2,500 per student per training
- Middle School After School 鈥� NEED: $582 per student (based on yearly attendance)
- Livestrong program for cancer survivors 鈥� NEED: $285 per participant
- Teen Late Night 鈥� NEED: $650 per student per year
- SPLASH swim lessons for 2nd graders from low-income elementary schools 鈥� NEED: $55 per student or $1,375 per class of 25 students
Financial assistance on kids programs and the need include:
- Swim Lessons 鈥� NEED: $27-$65 per child
- Summer Day Camp 鈥� NEED: $150 per child per week
- Youth Sports 鈥� NEED: $27-$65 per child
Bridge memberships are also provided to all members who bring in a layoff notice (three months free) to help them with their expenses, while not taking away an outlet for stress and family relaxation.

Sunflower Espresso, Dr. Tawook food trucks on campus March 4
Two food trucks to be at the Food Truck Plaza on Thursday, March 4.
Sunflower Espresso with be serving tasty coffees and other beverages between 8 a.m. to noon.
Dr. Tawook is a new authentic Mediterranean food truck that uses locally grown ingredients. Dr. Tawook will be here between 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Registration is now open for the eighth annual Gender & Sexuality in Kansas Conference, which will be held virtually on from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 12.
Whether you plan to drop in and out to attend conference sessions or keynotes, or if you plan to the full day, attendees must you pre-register in order to receive conference Zoom links. (Note: Zoom authentication will be required, so you must create a free Zoom account if you don't yet have one). Pre-registration will be open until midnight on Monday, March 8. - Hybrid Online (HYO): Online instruction with no assigned meeting day or time, but with in-person tests
- Online Synchronous courses (IIS): Offered in real time at an assigned day and time
- Online Asynchronous courses (IIE): Content is 鈥榦n demand鈥� with no assigned meeting day or time

Shocker Baseball hosts a three-game series versus Dixie State this weekend, March 5-7. First pitch times are set for 3 p.m., 1 p.m., and 1 p.m. respectively. Leadership Development serves to provide students with the resources they need to enhance the many leadership skills they already possess. Through targeted programming, students have the opportunity to choose how they would like to learn about leadership.

David Perez, to perform at Wednesdays in Wiedemann
Please join us for a special Wednesdays in Wiedemann in Wiedemann Hall on the Marcussen organ as we welcome master's degree candidate in organ performance, David Perez, in a recital of music by Franz Liszt and Maurice Durufle. It's the name game with each of the two pieces written on the names of well-known composers: B-A-C-H and A-L-A-I-N. The half-hour recital begins at 5:15 p.m. March 3, and admission is free. Trade food, supplies to pay off parking fines
It's time for Food for Fines! Donate food or supplies to the Shocker Support Locker March 2-4 to help pay off any outstanding parking citations.
Food for Fines is an initiative that is offered monthly to support the Shocker Support Locker, while providing a cheaper opportunity to pay parking citations. This semester we are also offering Supplies For Fines, which is an addition to Food for Fines.
This is an effort to help address the current needs of our students during this global pandemic. It works exactly the same as Food for Fines, but with a slight change to the number of items needed to be donated. Special thanks to the Fairmount College Student Advisory Council and Parking Services for being so helpful and supportive in implementing this addition to the program.

Service-Learning Showcase submission open
The Service-Learning Showcase is a unique opportunity for students who participate in service-learning through applied learning opportunities to showcase their experience through a research or reflective poster about the application of their course work to current community issues. This year the showcase will be held in a digital format and judged by a team of community partner leaders.
The showcase is an open forum for students to interact with faculty/staff, community partners and other students to engage in conversation about 成人头条's commitment to the public good.
Awards are presented in the following categories:
- Outstanding Overall Service-Learning Project: $150 scholarship to winning entry
- Innovation and Creativity in Problem Solving: $100 scholarship to winning entry

Prevention Services seeks actors
Prevention Services is recruiting volunteer actors to perform in the sexual violence prevention training being developed for 成人头条 State. Looking for individuals, groups, and couples to be in short clips, as well as several narrators who are willing to speak and appear on camera throughout the training. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are looking especially for actors who are members of a household together and can act in group or relationship shots. You will be helping to make the training more immersive and interesting. Shooting will start soon for some scenes.
