ECE Mission 

The mission of the department is to provide students with a strong foundation in the traditional and contemporary areas of electrical engineering, and computer engineering. The objective of the undergraduate programs is to educate students in science and engineering so that they can conceive and solve technological problems in society. Social and humanistic issues are also emphasized in the general education component of the program to provide breadth in education. The undergraduate programs provide graduates with the knowledge, aptitudes, and attitudes which prepare them for corporate and governmental entry level jobs or to pursue further education at the graduate level. The objective of the graduate programs is to enable students to synthesize, interpret, and apply research and other forms of knowledge for the advancement of the discipline.

We offer two Bachelors of Engineering programs within the ECE Department. Both the Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering (BSEE) and the Bachelor of Science in computer engineering (BSCE) are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of .

Program Educational Objectives

Program educational objectives (PEOs) are broad statements that describe what graduates are expected to attain within a few years after graduation. Program educational objectives are based on the needs of the program鈥檚 constituencies

Computer Engineering

We define two PEOs for our Electrical Engineering program, where at least one of the PEOs should be attained by graduates:

  1. The alumni, in the first several years after receiving their baccalaureate degree, will be productive and successful in the professional practice of computer engineering as evidenced by:
    1. Job satisfaction and contributions toward the success of one鈥檚 employers;
    2. Effective participation and leadership on engineering teams;
    3. Being effective in identifying and solving real-world problems;
    4. Being effective at handling increased responsibilities;
    5. Receipt of job-related awards, promotions/raises, and professional accomplishments.
  2. The alumni, in the first several years after receiving their baccalaureate degree, will be successful in pursuing continuing education as evidenced by:
    1. Effective progression toward an advanced postundergraduate degree or professional licensure/certification;
    2. Participation in professional societies, professional conferences and meetings;
    3. Participation in life-long learning by adapting to new technologies, tools and methodologies in computer engineering, and responding to the challenges of a changing environment;
    4. Scholarly accomplishments (e.g., publications, presentations);
    5. Professional self-study.
Electrical Engineering

"Student outcomes (SOs) describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program."   4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
