Missions and Challenges
Missions
Beginner and Beginner II Level teams will compete on Apprentice Missions. These missions are designed for entry-level teams or teams that are not quite ready to compete on the Professional Missions. NOTE: First year teams DO NOT have to participate at the Beginner Levels. In fact, teams are encouraged to participate in either the Intermediate or Expert Level. The Apprentice Missions are:
Intermediate and Expert Level teams will compete on Professional Missions. Professional Missions are different each year. Professional Missions are designed and built by College of Engineering student groups and undergo a rigorous review by professional engineers to ensure accuracy in measurements, drawings, and presentation. For the 2017 Shocker MINDSTORMS Challenge, there will be 6 Professional Missions. Links to detailed information about these Missions can be found below. The courses will be available for vieiwing on Preview Day, Jan. 7 at 10 a.m. to Noon (coaches only, no children), and for testing on Trial Day, Feb. 18, 2017, for teams to practice.
Challenges
Team Display -- ALL teams participate in the Team Display Competition. Each team will be provided a table to set up a Team Display that should provide an overview of the team and its efforts/activities to build a team and prepare for the Challenge. Teams are encouraged to be creative and to express the "personality" of the team in their display. One award will be given at each level, Beginner, Beginner II, Intermediate, and Expert, to the team earning the most points within that level. Points from Team Display apply toward the overall awards in each level.
Team Notebook -- ALL teams participate in the Team Notebook Competition. The Notebook should be maintained throughout the entire season as the team prepares for the Challenge and should reflect the journey the team went through to prepare for the competition.
Team Presentation -- Intermediate and Expert Teams are required to make presentations. One award will be given at each level, Intermediate and Expert, to the team earning the most points within that level. Points from the Presentation apply toward the overall awards in each level.
Team Interview -- Beginner II Teams are required to participate in a Team Interview. During the Interview, judges will ask Beginner II students 5 questions, randomly chosen from the 15 posted. The atmosphere will be relaxed and conversational.
