Challenge Day 2021

Saturday, March 06, 2021, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (This schedule will  change)
Heskett Center, WSU

!! Attention Coaches and Teams!!

Big update on the 2021 Shocker MindStorms Competition.

Due to COVID-19, and the reduced number of teams signing up this year, we want to try something different.  The focus of the day will be fun, there will be trophies, but there will be no scoring.  Here is how things will work.

Trial Day:

Trial Day will not be held.  With the elimination of the course scoring, the need for Trial Day is also eliminated.  If you believe, your team needs the trial day please contact Dr. Tamtam (perlekar.tamtam@wichita.edu).  If numerous teams need this day, accommodations may be made.

CHALLENGE DAY - March 6th:

Note: In order to be COVID responsible all teams must register by February 5th.

Only registered teams will be admitted on Challenge day.

Courses:

We will be putting out 8 courses for everyone to use, 4 from the Apprentice level and 4 from the Professional level.  There will be no pressure.  It will be all about working on your skills or trying something different.  Try out a Professional level course, or see how fast you can complete an Apprentice level course.  You decide.

Courses:

                                        Line Follower                   Shocker Race Track

                                        Towers of Doom              Hockey Challenge

                                        Maze Runner                    4 Corner Glow

Judging:

No Presentations or Interviews required this year.  No Notebooks or Displays required this year.

There will be judges at the courses.  These judges will have the authority to give out one trophy for each course.  Each trophy will be awarded to the team, which most impressed the judges at that course, on that day.  The trophies may be given for course completion, teamwork, tenacity, enthusiasm for other teams, etc.  The judges will decide which team impressed them and why.

Special Challenge Events:

Beginning at 12:00 p.m., we will share a couple of special challenge events.  Your teams can choose to participate in these if they wish.  Trust me; it will be just as much fun to watch!  Want a clue?  鈥..  Think speed.

There will be a six foot table and several chairs available for each team to work on their robot. The number of tables for each team depends on the number of teams registered. These tables will be located in the Heskett Center gymnasium in a common area for all teams. The courses will also be located in the Heskett Center gymnasium. There is a large seating area (bleachers) and plenty of room for spectators to wander and view the events.

Food and drink are not allowed in the gymnasium area. Teams can have food and drink in the area outside the gym on the second floor, and in the lobby area on the first floor. There is also a lobby area in Hubbard Hall (the building just to the west side of Heskett Center).
