Application Process for Undergraduate Research Experience

Review project list

Step 1:  Review Projects

Faculty have provided a list of research projects available to you for consideration.  Review the descriptions and select ones that you would like to persue. 

Students pursuing Engineering degees may apply for any College of Engineering project (it does not have to be in your specific major). 

Students pursuing STEM degrees outside of Engineering may apply for the projects listed as Liberal Arts & Sciences, Applied Sciences.

Meet faculty

Step 2:  Meet with research faculty

Arrange to meet with the faculty members responsibile for the projects you identified in the first step.  We would encourage these meetings be done virtually while WSU is executing its COVID-19 Plans.  You should be able to get any of your questions about the project answered, and introduce yourself to the faculty member.  The faculty member will be selecting the candidates they would like to have on their projects.  Click here for suggested questions/topics to guide the discussion.

Apply for projects

Step 3:  Apply for projects

Complete the application process for the research project(s) that you would like to work on (you may select up to 3 and rank them according to your preference).  This includes submitting an online application by March 23, 2022. Selected students will be assigned to 1 project.

Submit project proposal

Step 4:  Submit Research Proposal & Faculty Letter

Once your assignment has been finalized (in May), you will need to submit a research proposal.  You will receive an email with a link to enter this proposal online.  You should review the proposal with the Faculty sponsor of the project.

Due date  for submitting the project proposal is May 23, 2022.

Step 5:  Execute your research project

Projects are to be completed in the timeframe(s) indicated in the project descriptions.  Students will also need to complete the Introduction to Engineering Research workshop to be held May 23 .

Step 6:  Present your research

You are required to present your work at URCAF.  This presentation can be one of many formats.  See more about this event here.
