Intergenerational Teaching Panel and Workshop Features Honors Faculty Member & Students

成人头条 State鈥檚 Regional Institute of Aging will sponsor a panel presentation and workshop on 鈥淪trategies for Promoting Intergenerational Teaching At WSU: Promoting Age-Inclusiveness,鈥 from
4 - 6 p.m. on November 15th in RSC 142.

Panelists will include Dr. Joann Montepare, Director of the RoseMary B. Fuss Center for Research on Aging and Intergenerational Studies; Professor of Psychology at Lasell University and Lasell Village, and Dr. Louis Medvene, WSU Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology, currently teaching the intergenerational Honors seminar 鈥淥K Boomer.鈥 Three WSU students 鈥 Aliya Jankowski, Karl and Nancy Koenig 鈥 will present a student perspective on participating in intergenerational classes. Refreshments will be served. 


Volunteers Needed for Habitat for Humanity

成人头条 has committed to supporting the building of a Habitat for Humanity house near campus.  is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. It believes affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities.

The Honors College is delighted to sponsor a day of building. The Honors College is searching for volunteers on November 19th from 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. All volunteers will be provided with breakfast, lunch, and a Habitat for Humanity All Campus Build t-shirt. No experience is necessary. Volunteers will serve under the supervision of construction staff.

2021 National Collegiate Honors Council Conference

Six students and four faculty members represented 成人头条 at the National Collegiate Honors Council鈥檚 Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida October 27-31. Read the highlights below!

  • Olga Lesnik (Health Management Major, University Honors Minor, Honors Law and Public Policy Track) participated in the 鈥淭eaching and Learning Student Fishbowl,鈥 a question-and-answer session with five other students from honors programs and colleges from across the country.
  • Jacquelyn Martinez鈥檚 (Biological Sciences Major) Ronald E. McNair Scholars program research on student well-being and diversity in Honors was presented as a video during the 鈥淔orum on Diversity.鈥
  • Dean Kimberly Engber (Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College), Dr. Douglas Parham (CSD), Dr. Anthony Vizzini (Aerospace Engineering), and Dr. Chelsea Redger-Marquardt (College of Applied Studies and Director of Service-Learning and Leadership in Honors) presented a session titled 鈥淧ast, Present, and Future of Departmental Honors: Models and Outcomes in a Public University,鈥 speaking to the overall conference theme of 鈥淩eimagining Honors.鈥

Advising, Tutoring, and Important Reminders

Honors Advising: You are encouraged to email Jessica.Raburn@wichita.edu to arrange an advising appointment or use this . You two can review your progress towards completing your Honors Track and how Honors requirements can work with your degree.

College Advising: Your primary College is determined by your major. As an Honors student, you have two Colleges; however, your major鈥檚 College is responsible for knowing the most accurate and up-to-date information about your major while Honors Advising specializes in the Honors piece. If you are unsure about what your College is, feel free to ask me. There is a list of all the College Advising Centers with their main office contact, as well as, many of the individual advisors on-campus.

Tutoring 鈥 Where to get Help: Tutoring services such as GEEKS for Engineering students, Writing Center, Math Lab, etc. are all available in a remote format.

Important Points to Remember:

  • Engineering and Fine Arts majors must meet with an academic advisor before being able to register when it opens.
  • All first-year students, those who this is their first semester in college after high school, must meet with their First-Year Advisor.
  • Counseling and Prevention Services is available via telephone or Zoom.

Flexible schedule with a minimum 15 hours of work per week, 20 hours per week preferable.
