Guiding you through the process to become a successful Shocker student

As a premier urban public research university, 成人头条 strives to foster a welcoming campus community for all students, regardless of background, race, or immigration status.  As part of that commitment, WSU welcomes and encourages all students who are ready to take the next steps to higher education to apply for admission, regardless of citizenship status.


Admission to 成人头条

Undocumented students, with or without Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status, should follow the application procedures as other undergraduate or graduate applicants.  Information provided at time of admission will remain confidential and is not shared with outside entities, per the 鈥淔amily Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974鈥 (FERPA)In addition, applicants鈥 citizenship and/or immigrant status is never taken into consideration for admissions.


In-State Tuition

In 2004, Kansas State Legislatures voted to institute House Bill 2145, also known as , into law.  This statute allows undocumented students to pay in-state tuition if they meet specific in-state requirements as noted in section (2) of . To qualify, applicants must have:

  • attended an accredited Kansas high school for three or more years
  • either graduated from an accredited Kansas high school or earned a general educational development (GED) certificate issued within Kansas

If you qualify for in-state tuition, once admitted, applicants must submit this form to the  within 30 calendar days from the beginning of the semester in which you are applying for in-state tuition. For questions, please contact residency@wichita.edu or Jama at (316) 978-3672.


Scholarships

Once admitted, undocumented students can utilize 成人头条's general scholarships information and to apply for unrestricted scholarship opportunities afforded to 成人头条 students. Information provided to 成人头条 or entered into Scholarship Universe is confidential and is not shared with outside entities without prior authorization, per the 鈥淔amily Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974鈥 (FERPA)To be considered for a specific scholarship, applicants must meet the guidelines of the scholarship.


Academic Programs

At 成人头条, we strive to support all students throughout their academic journey. WSU provides strong undergraduate and graduate degree programs for students to pursue their career aspirations. However, students who are undocumented might encounter barriers to obtaining licensure/certifications due to the requirement of a social security number. Currently, Kansas does not extend occupational and professional licensure to undocumented individuals, including DACA recipients.

Applied Learning

Applied Learning experiences are the keystone of a 成人头条 education. Undocumented students may face barriers that require alternate or additional steps by the student to take full advantage of WSU鈥檚 applied learning opportunities. Undergraduate students should contact an academic advisor and graduate students should contact their program advisor to discuss options. The Shocker Career Accelerator is another applied learning resource for undocumented and DACA students.


Federal Financial Aid

Every U.S. citizen or  has the right to apply for and receive federal student aid. A parent's or spouse's citizenship status does not affect the student's eligibility for financial aid. Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required to access federal financial aid and may be required to access other forms of financial aid, such as state, institutional, or private aid. 

Students who are eligible to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can go to wichita.edu/FAFSA for more information or to start the application process.

Undocumented students, including Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, do not meet . However, undocumented students may be eligible for other types of student financial aid (state aid or college or career/trade school financial aid). Students with Undocumented Parents

Students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents with undocumented parents will be able to apply for FAFSA regularly through the online application. Additional steps can be required once submitted to process your application for FAFSA verification or account verification. 

Tips:

  •  Keep a record of both your student's account login and your parent's. You will need to create separate accounts. 
  • Do not mail in a paper version. 
  • Check the email you use for your FAFSA submission constantly to keep track of any additional steps you might need to do and see when your FAFSA has been completely processed. 
  • Submit your FAFSA as soon as the application opens to have time to assure it is processed and received correctly.

Career Development

成人头条's Shocker Career Accelerator has resources and services for undocumented students including information about fellowships and applied learning experiences. In addition, students are encouraged to speak with their academic program advisor to ensure licensure/certification for jobs and careers in their desired major do not require a social security number (see list of programs under Academic Programs).
