What's a Success Mentor?

Success Mentors are placed in a First-Year Seminar course to serve as the class Student Mentor for the full 16 week semester. They help students develop into independent learners by helping New Shockers develop time management/study skills, introduce them to campus life, and connect students with campus resources.

Success Mentors will:

  • Engage with First-Year Seminar Instructors and help lead ice breakers, discussions, and workshops
  • Serve as a role model to New Shockers throughout their first semester at WSU through hosting study hours, 1:1 meetings, and attending campus events and other activities 
  • Work as part of the First-Year Programs Team to help New Shockers transition to WSU

Applications for 2024-2025 Success Mentor Team will open March 4th.

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications                 

  • Current undergraduate student and enrolled in at least 12 credit hours.
  • Completion of at least 12 credit hours at 成人头条.
  • Have an interest in helping students transition to Shocker Nation.
  • Positive academic and conduct standing with the university.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to provide guidance, support and motivation for others in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Ability to attend and successfully complete all training and commitments 
  • 2.75 GPA or higher

Other Information:

  • Salary will be $11.00 per hour

Time Commitment

Time Commitment:

  • Attend Spring Success Mentor Team Welcome: (April, 2 hours)
  • Attend Fall Welcome Retreat (August, TBA, 8 hours)
  • Assist with SHOCKFEST (August 16th-18th)
  • Attend assigned weekly First-Year Seminar class (2 hours/Week)
  • Attend Monthly Success Mentor Team Meeting (1 hour)

  • Interview Invitations will be sent out on a rolling basis
  • Interviews will occur March 26th-March 28th
  • Offers will be extended April 1st-April 5th
