Application for Degree (AFD)

Deadlines

If you plan to participate in the commencement ceremony and would like your name included in the program, you must complete your AFD by the following deadlines:

Undergrad Students:

Fall Graduates: OCTOBER 1

Spring/Summer Graduates: MARCH 1

Graduate Students:

20th day of classes

IMPORTANT: Participation in the commencement ceremony is not a guarantee that you have graduated. You must complete all graduation requirements to be awarded your degree.

Step 1: Review your Degree Works Audit

Where can I find my Degree Works Audit?

Your Degree Works Audit is located in your myWSU portal > myClasses > View My Degree Evaluation/Audit.

What should I be looking for?

  • Confirm remaing course and graduation requirements.
  • Verify that you major is listed correctly and that any minors/concentrations are reflected. If you need to update your major or minor, do so via the "Change My Major/Minor" app. Located in your myWSU portal > Home > Student Tools.
  • Verify that all college work is represented on your audit. ALL official transcripts must be sent to WSU before your degree will be posted, even if these courses are not needed to meet WSU degree requirements.

What if something is incorrect on my audit?

Email your advisor with your name, WSU ID, and concern.

Step 2: Complete your Application for Degree (AFD)

Once you have reviewed your Degree Works audit, you should submit your Application for Degree and complete the Exit Survey. This notifies the college of your intent to graduate and begins the process of auditing your academic record to confirm that you will meet all degree requirements. The process is easy and clear, and allows you to validate your information as you proceed through the online system. The AFD also lets you list your name as you wish it to appear on your diploma.

NOTE: All undergraduate seniors must complete an Application for Degree (AFD) in order to graduate.

FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY: There is a $25.00 fee in order to file your AFD. It is non-refundable. Each time a student delays degree completion, a new AFD and $25 filing fee will be required. You must pay a $25.00 filing fee using a credit or debit card. If you do not have a credit or debit card, you will not be able to file electronically. If that is the case, please contact your college advising center for assistance.

Where can I find the Application for Degree?
The AFD is located in your myWSU portal > myClasses > Graduation Links.

When should I complete the AFD?
You may file your AFD up to two semesters before your expected date of graduation.

What if I need to make changes to my AFD?
Email your advisor with any questions.

Graduation Honors

The university only confers honors for undergraduate degrees.

Honors are based on BOTH the WSU cumulative grade point average and the overall cumulative grade point average:

  • Summa Cum Laude 鈮 3.9
  • Magna Cum Laude 鈮 3.55
  • Cum Laude 鈮 3.25

As grades are not confirmed in time for commencement or the program, student honors are listed based off the prior semester鈥檚 GPAs. There are no exceptions. Your final honors will be reflected on your diploma.
