This year鈥檚 Black History Month theme from the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) is Black Resistance. Historically, notable efforts from Carter G. Woodson, Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Ida B. Wells, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Septima Poinsette Clark, Fannie Lou Hamer and Rosa Parks have sought to protect and advocate for Black life.

For more than 4,000 years we鈥檝e been making some type of New Year鈥檚 resolution, starting with ancient Babylonians (History). Back then things looked a little different - the resolutions focused on returning tools and paying off debts. Today while some make formal resolutions, most of us hit reset in some way with the new calendar year. New Year resolutions provide a moment of reflection to invest in something we value 鈥� get healthier, be a better friend, or spend more time with family. This year, as I thought about my resolution for the PPMC, I kept coming back to one thing...

At Team PPMC, we try our best to be 鈥渞eal鈥� about life, expectations, and moments that call for celebration, mourning, or laughter鈥� and sometimes that laughter is directed at each other. We take our work seriously, but life? Life calls for laughter.

To finish our workforce series, we conducted a Q&A with staff to highlight the generational differences of how we all view work. The generational makeup of Team PPMC ranges from Gen Z to Baby Boomer 鈥� and we all have different approaches to work and how we see it play out in our lives.

How did you get here? Where are you going? 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 grow up in local government.鈥� That is my standard answer, when friends would ask about my path to the Public Policy and Management Center and 成人头条 State. I grew up helping, working, and connecting with those in my rural communities. I saw the commitment to service, strength, and ingenuity of those around and beside me.
